Over the day you will learn basic rope and belay techniques for example; building snow pack anchors and taking body belays. We will also look at avalanche avoidance and snow analysis. We will not neglect to brush up on ice axe arrests and correct crampon techniques. Course dates Please see our diary for availability and course dates. For group bookings please get in touch. Arrival Time 0830 Base location Our Winter Mountaineering course will be held in the Southern Highlands of Scotland. This will give us plenty of opportunity to use very accessible mountain venues to make the most of the days training. We will meet up initially in Aberfeldy where we can then travel for the best hill conditions. Full details will be sent out with confirmation of your booking. Previous experience The Scottish hills can be a harsh environment so please come prepared to be out on the hill in the winter weather. You will however need some winter walking experience, particularly ice axe and crampon technique as we will be stepping it up a gear throughout the day to gather as much mountaineering knowledge as possible. A good level of fitness will enable you to get the most out of your course. Cost Includes The course fee includes instruction and technical equipment. It does not include accommodation; guests can then make their own arrangements depending on personnel budget.
